Forget my last post. If McCain is planning to vote for the Senate version of the Bailout/Rescue bill tonight as Michelle Malkin is reporting he is, he just lost my vote.

This is such a golden opportunity for him. If calls to the Capitol are any indication, the vast majority of the public is against this bill. His opponent is going to vote for it. Voting against it would not only be the right thing to do, but it would distinguish him in a very clear way from Obama and win a ton of votes at the same time.

After spending so much of last week’s debate railing against earmarks and saying that as President he’d veto any bill that came to him with them in it, how can he vote for this crap sandwich? Here’s a list of the earmarks in the current version (quoted from Malkin’s post):

- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

I’d never vote for BRCK BM; but if McCain votes for this bill, I’ll either be voting for Bob Barr or staying home on November 4.

Call your Senators and your regional McCain campaign headquarters and tell them to take a note from the House Republicans and grow a pair.

EDIT: As Karla notes in the comments, the original video I posted here has been removed from YouTube. Here’s another that is just as incriminating.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

John Murtha will chair the Appropriations committee (that funds the troops overseas, among other things).

Charley Rangel will chair the Ways and Means committee.  Goodbye, Bush tax cuts and economic improvements.

John Conyers will chair the Judiciary committee.  Hello, impeachment proceedings.

Alcee Hastings (a former federal judge impeached and removed for corruption and bribery) will chair the Intelligence committee.

If the two outstanding Senate races end up the way they are currently leaning, the Senate will be 51-49 (assuming the two independents caucus with the democrats.  That would mean SENATOR KENNEDY WOULD CHAIR THE ETHICS COMMITTEE.

Soldiers respond to John Kerry

Logan Darrow Clements, CEO of Freestar Media LLC is my new favorite person. He has issued a press release describing his newest project: making use of the “eminent domain” Supreme Court ruling earlier this week to build a new hotel on the site of Justice Souter’s house.

The “Lost Liberty Hotel” will feature a permanent exhibit on the loss of freedom. Other attractions include a restaurant (the “Just Desserts Cafe”–I’m assuming they will serve Crow Surprise) and a copy of “Atlas Shrugged” in the nightstand instead of a Gideon’s Bible.

The town in which the site is located is governed by a 5-member council. Because of the Supreme Court ruling, it will take 3 of them to take Souter’s house and give it to Clements. Let’s hope the town council has a sense of humor, and more importantly, a sense of freedom and justice.

Things would probably be going so much better for John Kerry if the media didn’t have such a nasty habit of writing down (or in this case, recording) what people say. This week’s blast from the past comes courtesy of the Washington Times, who write that in 1997 Kerry appeared on CNN’s Crossfire to make the case for launching pre-emptive war against Iraq. Dang, if only W had thought of that…

I thought about putting up a big post about the Dan Rather fiasco, but it’s already been done on a million other sites and blogs. Two really good ones are Rathergate.com and RatherBiased.com, both of which document the events really well in a blog format. This John Cole cartoon sums up Dan Rather pretty well:

UPDATE: The Herald-Sun site apparently only keeps the cartoons online for a week or so. That’s what I get for not saving the file locally. Anyway, it was really funny… I guess you had to be there.

Few things are more pathetic than a military officer who claims or takes credit for medals he did not earn. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Kerry’s records reflect an award that has never been given to anyone. His DD214 shows a “Silver Star with combat V”; unfortunately for John, none of the armed services have ever awarded a “combat V” to a Silver Star for anyone. His record also lists four bronze campaign stars for his Vietnam service medal, which signify service in specific campaigns within the Vietnam war. According to the Navy spokesman cited in the article, “Kerry should only have two campaign stars: one for ‘Counteroffensive, Phase VI,’ and one for ‘Tet69, Counteroffensive.’”

Hey John, did you award the combat V and the additional campaign stars to yourself before or after you threw them onto the White House lawn?

“We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.” Thank you, Hillary, for brilliantly summing up the platform of the democratic party.
