A New York hospital is not sure if the tools they use for colonoscopies and endoscopies were properly disinfected in early May. “The procedures involve inserting a flexible tube through the patient’s mouth or rectum to check the upper or lower digestive system for abnormalities.” I certainly hope that they didn’t use the same tube for both procedures during the “not sure if we disinfected it” time period. For that matter, if I ever require an endoscopy, it would be my preference that they use a tube that has never been inside someone’s rectum, regardless of the amount of disinfectant they use to clean it.
